Position Overview
North Vancouver Recreation & Culture (NVRC) is dedicated to building healthy individuals, families and communities. NVRC offers a wide range of recreation and cultural programs and services to residents of all ages and abilities. We are currently seeking energetic, responsible and highly-motivated individuals who are able to prepare and lead a variety of age appropriate cooking and baking programs for preschool, school age children and adults.

You are reliable, responsive to customer needs, and excellent at building relationships. You will be comfortable working with children, adults, other leaders, volunteers and facility staff.  
 
DUTIES:
As a casual Cooking Instructor 1 you will be responsible for lesson planning, and delivering a fun and interactive culinary learning experience for adults, school age, and/or preschool age children. Programs may include both cooking and baking components. 
 
Responsibilities include, but not limited to the following, and will include tasks beyond the kitchen:
  • Food preparation and Dishwashing
  • Set-up and clean-up of cooking classes 
  • Create skills-based lesson plans which include Food Safe guidelines and best practices for food handling
  • Ensure a premium cooking class experience is delivered to each student 
  • Instructing groups through basic recipes
  • Occasional grocery shopping 
Requirements
SKILLS REQUIRED:
  • Comfortable with food preparation (knife skills, safe food handling and basics of food storage)
  • Experience in a kitchen is preferred 
  • Detail-oriented
  • Responsible and able to work with limited supervision
  • Solutions-oriented and adaptable to change
  • An engaging, creative, hands-on, and interactive manner
 
QUALIFICATIONS:
Applicants must be minimum 16 years of age, with a culinary aptitude and have previous experience planning and leading preschool, school age, youth or adult programs. Successful candidates must have current Food Safe Level 1, Emergency or Standard First Aid, CPR Level C. High Five certification must be obtained within 3 months of employment.  
 
All employees should be prepared to work at any North Vancouver Recreation & Culture location. All candidates are required to submit a Police Information Check as a requirement of the position prior to any appointment. 
Compensation The rate of pay for this casual position ranges from $21-23/hr
Hours of Work Programs run Mon-Fri at a variety of times through the week. Shifts range in length from 3.5 hours to 7 hours.
